Surrey LIP Goes National

Mariam Bilgrami, who oversees the Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), has been appointed as one of the members of the National LIP Secretariat’s first Executive Committee.

The National LIP Secretariat is a recently launched organizing body, staffed through a partnership between Toronto South and Jasper LIPs, that will provide national-level collaboration for Local Immigration Partnerships.

As stated in the Report on the 2021 National LIP Network Summit: Governance of the National LIP Secretariat, “The purpose of the NLS is to improve the efficacy of the LIPs through sustainable networks, shared resources, capacity building, and the amplification of the diverse LIP voices.”

The Executive Committee will provide strategic direction, oversight and representation for the network of LIPs across the country.

“I am so pleased to be selected as one of the members of the National LIP Secretariat Executive Committee and to represent the City of Surrey on a national level,” said Bilgrami. “The work LIPs do to improve the settlement and outcomes of newcomers at the local level is important.
